Mark Robinson was eight years old when he joined Anglesey Golf Club at Rhosneigr. Half a century later, he celebrated the milestone in style, with a charity day at the club that raised £11,200, almost double what he had hoped for.

The event was held on Saturday 29 August and featured bouncy castles and a tombola on the practice grounds, pop-up golf, entertainment all day and, of course, a golf competition. Hogans and WOW Training were the main sponsors.

The money was split between the MND Association and Parkinson's UK Cymru, with £600 also donated to the Sport Parkinson's Five Nations golf tournament at The Belfry. Mark chose the charities because they are close to his heart, and both supplied T-shirts and collection buckets for the day.

"It was awesome. I could never have foreseen that happening," Mark said. "It rained in the morning, but people came from everywhere. We originally hoped for between £6,000 and £7,000, but to raise that amount of money was incredible. All I can say is 'wow', it was just phenomenal." He thanked the sponsors and everyone who helped make the day a success.

Anglesey Golf Club is the only links course on the island, set among the dunes of Rhosneigr. The club proudly notes that it is the links where Dr Frank Stableford worked on his world-renowned scoring system. The course plays to a par of 68 from the yellow tees and 70 from the whites and reds.

The club prides itself on its friendliness and warm welcome, has a strong seniors section for the over 55s with a packed calendar, and offers a range of deals for new members. Visitors and societies are welcome, and there is a café and stay-and-play packages. The club's latest news has included sightings of RAF aircraft over the course and the birdlife that can be spotted between shots.

Mark's 50 years show what a club can mean to someone who grows up on its fairways.
