Cwrw Llŷn brews the stories of the peninsula from its home in Nefyn

Order a pint at the Ty Coch Inn, perched on the sand at Porthdinllaen, and the chances are it will have been brewed just down the road. Cwrw Llŷn, the independent brewery in Nefyn, supplies its ales to the famous red-walled pub, and a recent guide to eating on the peninsula picked out pints of local ale from Cwrw Llŷn as part of the pub's charm.
Cwrw Llŷn was set up in 2011 on the Llŷn Peninsula and moved into a purpose-built brewery at Parc Eithin in Nefyn after running at capacity at its former site. The move, which saw an investment of up to £500,000, took production from around 6,000 pints a week to around 17,000, with 60 casks and four brews possible each week.
The new building, called Blas o'r Bragdy, was designed with visitors in mind as well as brewing. "The other side of the new site is the brewery tours we can now run so that we are also an attraction for the Llyn Peninsula," brewery manager Iwan Foel said at the time.
The brewery describes itself as small and independent, producing beers full of flavour and character, from malty bitters to light golden ales. Its philosophy is to give the craft time and fair play, so that the customer has a good time.
Llŷn itself provides the inspiration. The brewery says the peninsula gives its beers their territory, their legends, their characters and their names. The current range includes Brenin Enlli, Seithenyn, Cochyn, Y Brawd Houdini, Glyndwr, Porth Neigwl and Largo, names that will ring a bell with anyone who knows the peninsula's beaches, islands and old stories.
Nefyn makes a fitting home. The brewery points out that the historic town is known for its links with the sea, and that the surrounding area is criss-crossed with paths over the Eifl mountains, through the granite quarry country and along the coast, including the old pilgrims' route to Enlli.
Visit Wales lists the brewery among its food and drink attractions, describing Cwrw Llŷn as producers of real taste and legendary ales.
