There is a new smell drifting through Rhyl's Queen's Market. Die Hard BBQ, a family business started by entrepreneur Dan Archer Jones, has joined the food and market hall on the seafront, and everything on its menu is gluten-free.

The menu takes in tender short ribs, smoked chicken, fall-off-the-bone ribs, smoked sausages and BBQ combos. Even the mac and cheese is made without gluten. "All of our spices, sauces, sides and meats are all made without gluten," the business explained.

That was a deliberate choice. Dan has family and friends who cannot eat gluten, and catering for them was a top priority when he was creating the menu.

"Cooking and in particular BBQ food has always been my passion and I'm looking forward to getting started at the Queen's Market," Dan said. "I've had some great support from my family in particular, it's hugely exciting to be at the start of something that's going to be a great success."

Dylan Evans, operations manager at Queen's Market, welcomed the new arrival. "We welcome Dan and his family into the Queen's Market and are delighted to have Die Hard BBQ on board," he said. "We are sure they will be a huge success here."

Die Hard BBQ is the second gluten-free trader at the market, joining Romi'ng Wolf, which serves gluten-free, coeliac-safe fried chicken. Together they make the hall a good bet for anyone who usually has to quiz staff about ingredients before ordering.

The multi-million pound Queen's Market opened in July 2025 as a food and market hall on the site of the former Queen's Buildings, which once housed the Bistro bar and nightclub, the Savoy Hotel and a market hall. This October its events hall was officially renamed Arena Mike Peters, in honour of The Alarm frontman who grew up in the town.

With street food traders, a market and a busy events programme under one roof, the venue has quickly become a meeting place on the Rhyl seafront.

Die Hard BBQ is trading now inside the Queen's Market in Rhyl. Check the market's social media channels for opening hours.
