Few dining rooms in North Wales have a view quite like the one from Dylan's Llandudno. The restaurant sits towards the end of the Victorian sweep of the promenade on East Parade, with the bay in front and the Great Orme rising behind, in the lovingly restored building that was once the Washington Hotel.

The Llandudno restaurant opened in 2017, and it is the largest of the Dylan's family. As well as intimate ground floor spaces and a terrace, it has a large upstairs dining room and cocktail bar overlooking the sea. Venue Cymru is a few steps away, which makes it a natural choice for a pre-theatre meal.

Dylan's began at Menai Bridge on Anglesey, which the company describes as the flagship that set it on its voyage along the coast. It has since added the glass-fronted art deco Morannedd building in Criccieth, the Washington building in Llandudno and a restaurant on Conwy High Street that looks over Conwy Castle, while its website also lists a site at Llanaber near Barmouth.

Local produce sits at the heart of the menus, and seafood is the obvious draw. When The Leader's reviewer visited this autumn, he started with sea bream tacos with pickled red cabbage, pico de gallo, guacamole and mojo picon, then moved on to one of the kitchen's variations on fish and chips, made with wild sea bass. Dessert was a trio of cinnamon churros with dark chocolate sauce, Dylan's tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding with salted butterscotch sauce and Red Boat vanilla ice cream.

He also noted the décor, which is nautical but stylish and modern, nodding to the days when Llandudno proudly called itself the Queen of Resorts. It feels, he wrote, like a place that understands where it is and celebrates it.

Dylan's has grown beyond its restaurants too. Its General Stores sell artisan breads, patisserie and savoury bakes from the same team of bakers and chefs, alongside local produce and gifts, and an online shop offers a dine at home range made by its chefs on Anglesey, along with hampers and vouchers.

The Llandudno restaurant is also a fully licensed wedding venue, and the team can cater for functions and events across its sites.
