Llandudno Rotary's Community Chest hands out grants to local groups

Small grants can go a long way, and Llandudno Rotary has just proved it again. The club has announced the latest recipients of its Community Chest, which gives local groups between £100 and £500 to support their community projects.
Every summer the club invites small groups to apply online through a deliberately straightforward and informal process. This year it received 12 applications by the 31 July deadline. A panel of five Rotary members met on 5 August to choose the winners, and the club as a whole approved the selections on 11 August.
Conwy County Sea Cadets received £200 to help more young people aged 10 to 17 learn to sail. The Llandudno Tidy Team was granted £500 to buy three litter trolleys and two long-handled scrapers, and the Fit and Fed Holiday Club received £500 towards activities, equipment and food during the summer holidays and beyond.
Clwb Yr Efail was awarded £400 to help with transport for its members, most of whom are elderly or housebound. Fun Fit and Fabulous, a group offering women aged 30 to 80 a chance to socialise, received £400 to buy tap shoes, simple costumes and accessories, as the group plans to perform at charitable events and nursing homes.
The club's president said she was proud of its efforts. "This is an excellent example of how we use our fundraising efforts throughout the year to help the local community," she said. "We have been able to help 25 local organisations in this way since 2023 and we're already raising funds for next year's Awards."
The club's charitable trust raises its money through members' activities in the Llandudno area, including Christmas collections and members' donations, and supports local charities such as hospices as well as international causes.
The Community Chest has been running since 2023, and it is a reminder that a few hundred pounds, placed in the right hands, can keep a local group going.
Groups interested in applying next summer can contact Llandudno Rotary Club, and anyone keen to support its fundraising can look out for its collections around town at Christmas.
