Sandy Mount House in Rhosneigr becomes employee-owned

A favourite stop in the seaside village of Rhosneigr now belongs to the people who run it. Sandy Mount House, the boutique hotel, bar and restaurant on the High Street, has become employee-owned after owners Phil and Louise Goodwin transferred the business to an Employee Ownership Trust.

The Goodwins took on the former Sandy Mount Club in 2018 and turned it into a business that now employs around 50 people. It holds a Visit Wales five-star Gold rating, and its restaurant has an AA Rosette.

The couple wanted to step back, and the existing management team was already running much of the day-to-day operation. They chose employee ownership to keep the business in the community and protect local jobs. The Goodwins will stay on for a few months to make sure of a smooth handover, and will keep ownership of the building.

The trust's board includes Louise Goodwin, independent trustee Mike Williams of Cwmpas, and Helen Roberts, a supervisor at the hotel. The company's directors will include manager Dan Pritchard, maintenance manager Gary Phillips and finance manager Iolo Jones. The move was supported by Employee Ownership Wales, which is run by Cwmpas, with The Hospitality Accountant in Criccieth providing accounting support.

Sandy Mount House describes itself as a contemporary beach house restaurant and bar, a home from home to eat, gather and sleep, with cosy corners, log fires and stylish interiors. Head chef Ethan Ward leads a kitchen serving high quality, locally sourced seasonal produce, with Welsh flavours and culinary tradition at the heart of a menu designed to be generous and comforting.

Guests can call in for food, coffee or cake, or for a drink from a curated selection of craft ales, beers and cocktails, at any time of day. Upstairs, seven rooms are styled with contemporary beach house elegance, with the sea right on the doorstep.

It has also launched a delivery service around the local area, Sandy Mount House for Anglesey.
