At the very end of the Llŷn Peninsula, where the Wales Coast Path curves around Aberdaron, there is a warm welcome waiting on the beach. Sauna Môr is a wood-fired beach sauna that combines the tradition of the Finnish sauna with the bracing embrace of the Irish Sea.

The idea is contrast therapy in its purest form: warm up in the cosy sauna, then cool off in the sea, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with panoramic views of the beach. Visit Wales describes it as an off-grid retreat, perfect for wild swimmers, wellness seekers and eco-conscious adventurers, and the ultimate way to warm up after a day exploring the coast path.

Sauna Môr is open all year round, and the owners say the experience is appreciated even more in autumn and winter, when you can sit back, relax and breathe while watching the wild coastal weather. It is also, they point out, a perfect rainy day activity, and Visit Wales calls it a unique coastal wellness experience offering hot and cold therapy on the beach for anyone who loves outdoor adventures and wants to connect with nature.

There are three ways to visit. Private sessions give exclusive use of the sauna for groups of up to eight, for 50 or 80 minutes. Community sessions are shared with up to seven other people and are a sociable way to relax and meet new people. Midweek, the Wednesday Sauna Club offers evening sessions at a discounted rate.

"Be present, dive into the elements and embrace the healing power of nature," the team says, describing the combination of warm sauna and cold sea as leaving visitors revitalised and naturally uplifted.

Aberdaron makes a fitting home, on the stunning Llŷn Peninsula, and the sauna is a natural pause for walkers on the Wales Coast Path or anyone enjoying the outdoors around Pen Llŷn.

If a suitable slot is not available online, the team says it will do its best to accommodate requests by email.
