Strands N Hands in Colwyn Bay grows into one big salon with a Japanese head spa

When Zoe Walker opened Strands N Hands at 135a Abergele Road in Colwyn Bay in November 2023, it was a single salon. It has grown quickly since, taking on the premises next door and combining the two into what Zoe calls one big salon.

One of the most talked-about additions is the Japanese head spa treatment, essentially a massage for the scalp, which went viral on TikTok. The salon introduced it after Clare joined the team, and Zoe said at the time that she believed Clare was the first person in North Wales to offer it. "Our clients are literally queuing up for appointments," she said.

The salon has also renovated a training academy downstairs and built a custom-made spray tan lounge, and North Wales graffiti artist Andy Birch completed a striking design on one of its walls.

Strands N Hands celebrated its first birthday with an event for clients and friends, with canapés, cocktails, goodie bags and a raffle supported by more than 50 prizes from local businesses including Hickory's, Bay Gym, Bennetts Interiors and MyRepair UK. The raffle raised £1,300 for the mental health organisation Hold Your Ground.

At the celebration, Bill Lewis of iD Clinica showcased a new skincare treatment, bio spicule therapy, and announced Zoe as the brand's ambassador for the whole of North Wales. The salon's Japanese head spa room and skincare suite were also set up for demonstrations.

"I'm completely overwhelmed with the success and rapid expansion of Strands, and am so grateful to all of my talented team, family, friends and wonderful clients for their continued loyalty and support," Zoe said as the team grew. "My dreams have come true and I'm so proud of us all."

With a large team under one roof, the salon now covers hair, beauty and skincare, making it a one-stop shop on one of Colwyn Bay's main roads, with a website on the way.
