Swan Farm Shop near Mold wins CPRW Rural Wales Award

A family farm shop near Mold has been recognised for its contribution to rural Wales. Swan Farm Shop, at Ffrith Farm in Treuddyn, has been named the recipient of CPRW's Clwyd Branch Rural Wales Award 2026.

CPRW, the Welsh Countryside Charity, has run its Rural Wales Awards for more than 30 years, celebrating the people and businesses that help sustain the countryside through responsible land management, rural enterprise and thriving communities.

The Swan family raise their own beef and free-range pedigree Welsh pork, which is sold over the full butcher's counter in the shop alongside a wide range of products from local suppliers. The judges highlighted the business's emphasis on reducing food miles, supporting Welsh producers and keeping high standards of animal welfare.

Bob Gaffey, chairman of CPRW's Clwyd Branch, said the shop "demonstrates how farming and rural enterprise can work together to support our countryside, local economy and communities."

Gail Swan said the family was delighted. "We love what we do, and it's a real privilege to be recognised with this award," she said. "Farming has been part of our family for generations, and everything we do is about building on those foundations and creating something that future generations of Swans can be proud of."

It is not the first time the farm has been honoured. In 2023 the family won the NFU Cymru and Wynnstay Sustainable Agriculture Award. At the time, NFU Cymru described a farm with a 150-strong beef herd, more than 100 pigs, a flock of free-range hens and honeybees, all supplying the shop that Clive and Gail Swan opened in March 2003. Their son Ed joined the business full time in December 2021, and daughter Rebecca is also part of the team.

The shop is more than a place to buy sausages. A farm-to-shop trail lets visitors walk around the farm to see the pigs, the suckler herd, the hens and the crops, and the family hosts farm tours and educational visits for schools, the WI, Scouts and community groups. Ed's pumpkins and sunflowers have also proved a hit, and the shop was crowned Leader Best Farm, Deli or Butcher's Shop in 2025.
