Theatr Colwyn's family panto The Snow Queen brings local talent and magic to Colwyn Bay

Christmas is in danger at Theatr Colwyn. The wicked Snow Queen has lured Santa Claus to the North Pole, where she plans to abolish Christmas forever, and only brave Boris, his brother and their ice cream parlour-owning mother, Nerys Knickerbocker, can save the day.
The Snow Queen is presented by Magic Light Productions in association with Theatr Colwyn and runs from 19 December 2026 to 2 January 2027. The cast is made up of professional performers from the region, and four magicians and illusionists will bring extra sparkle to the stage, with plenty of audience participation promised.
"Panto is such a special part of our year," said Libby Loughland, co-owner of Magic Light Productions and star of the show. "We love seeing families return each Christmas, and it means a lot to be part of that tradition here in Colwyn Bay."
"The Snow Queen gives us so much scope for magic, mischief and plenty of fun," she added. "There's a wealth of professional talent here in North Wales, and we're proud to bring some of those wonderful performers together on our local stage. We can't wait to get everyone laughing, joining in and enjoying a proper family outing at their local theatre."
The cast includes Stuart Loughland as Nerys Knickerbocker, Dean Raymond as Jac Ffrost, Kazia Cannon as The Spirit of the Seasons, Seren Williams as Elsi and Colwyn Bay favourite Steve Bloor as Alfie Avalanche. On their journey to rescue Santa, the heroes must also get past the Snow Queen's fearsome Yeti.
Theatr Colwyn is a busy community venue that mixes theatre and cinema. This half term alone its programme has included a giant bubble show, the Disney Junior Cinema Club and screenings of Sense and Sensibility, alongside touring plays, and it is supported by a team of volunteers.
A trip to the panto at the town's own theatre has long been part of Christmas in Colwyn Bay, and this year's show puts North Wales performers centre stage.
