Wrexham in Bloom wins Gold and the City Category at Wales in Bloom 2026

Wrexham's gardeners, litter pickers and green-fingered volunteers have plenty to celebrate. Wrexham in Bloom has been awarded Gold and named City Category Winner at the Wales in Bloom 2026 awards.
The judges visited on 21 July for a four-and-a-half-hour tour of the county borough. It began at Tŷ Mawr, where they were introduced to projects supported through LP4N funding, including Wrexham's bug hotel, before moving on to Pen-y-cae Orchard, Pentrebychan Nursery and Erlas Walled Garden and finishing with the floral displays in the city centre.
Along the way they met the council's arboricultural officer, its trainees and members of Wrexham Litter Pickers, a reminder of how many different people help to look after the area's green spaces.
Peter Barton-Price, chairman of Wales in Bloom, said the judges were delighted to once again award Wrexham in Bloom a Gold Award. "The award recognises the outstanding partnership between local communities and Wrexham County Borough Council, demonstrating how collaborative working can enhance the environment, promote biodiversity and deliver horticultural excellence across the city," he said. "The diversity of the projects was outstanding, and the voluntary efforts were incredible."
Several local groups were also recognised in the It's Your Neighbourhood awards, including Pen-y-cae Orchard, Wrexham Litter Pickers, Cefn Mawr Museum, Cefn Mawr Community Council and Woodswork CIC.
Councillor Nigel Williams, lead member for economy, business and tourism, called the result a fantastic achievement that everyone in Wrexham can be proud of. "This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our council teams, community groups and volunteers who work throughout the year to improve and maintain our green spaces," he said, thanking everyone involved for helping make Wrexham a greener and more welcoming place for residents and visitors.
The win comes in an exciting year for the city, which is also one of four finalists in the race to become UK City of Culture 2029.
